PM Modi & Trump Likely to Meet in Malaysia: PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump are expected to meet in Malaysia. As per the reports, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Malaysia for the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit to be held between October 26–27. Notably, Donald Trump has also been extended an invitation by Malaysia to attend the summit.
It is expected that PM Modi and the US President Donald Trump may also hold a meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur in October.
As Malaysia has also extended invitation to Trump to attend the summit. If Trump accepts the invitation, it will be the the first multilateral forum where PM Modi and the US President will come face-to-face after Washington imposed 50 per cent tariffs on India.
The relation between India and the US have became sour after Trump imposed 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods. The conflict between the two nation started over Russian oli purchase. The rift widened when Trump targeted India over its energy ties with Moscow.
Amid the ongoing conflict, Trump's aides, Peter Navarro call the Russia-Ukraine conflict "Modi's war" and also blamed India of profiteering through its refineries.
Meanwhile, speaking alongside UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, Trump said that he has a "very good relationship" with Modi. Last month, when he was asked about if he wanted to rethink about the ties with India, Trump said the relationship as "very special" and called PM Modi as a "great Prime Minister." Meanwhile, PM Modi, speaking about India-US partnership said it remains "positive and forward-looking".
However, PM Modi recently welcomed Trump's Gaza peace plan. PM Modi said, ''We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region. We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.''
